SCP's eBike Incentive Program
Sonoma Clean Power is pleased to present our Bike Electric incentive program, to help income-qualified customers buy an electric bike (commonly called “eBikes”). Qualified SCP customers can receive a $1,000 incentive toward the purchase of select eBikes at participating retailers.
Through the “Bike Electric” program, SCP hopes to stimulate the local eBike market, further support the adoption of clean modes of transportation, and make eBikes accessible to residents who could benefit most from owning one.
Not sure what an eBike is? eBikes assist riders with power provided by an integrated motor and battery. Among the benefits of owning an eBike are faster, easier commutes, zero emissions, and no visits to the gas pump.
When compared to a traditional bike, eBikes allow riders to travel longer distances in a shorter amount of time. The extra range and assisted pedaling can help replace car trips, ease commutes to work, and solve the “last mile” issue some people face when using public transit.
Any Sonoma Clean Power customer on our reduced CARE/FERA rates is eligible to participate in this program. We also accept proof of participation in several income-qualified programs such as SNAP (aka food stamps), Medicaid/Medical, Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI), Women Infants and Children (WIC), Head Start, and many others. To inquire whether a program is part of our approved list, please contact us at programs@sonomacleanpower.org or 1 (855) 202-2139.
To qualify for your $1,000 voucher, submit an application. Make sure to have your PG&E account number and any documentation from an income-qualified program ready to upload. Once your application has been approved, we’ll send you a voucher by mail that you can take to any participating retailer to get $1,000 off the price of an eligible eBike.
All eligible bikes are California Class 1 or Class 2 and cost a maximum of $3,500. Mountain bikes and road bikes are not eligible. Due to current conditions, not all eligible eBikes are available at all participating retailers and customers may need to place an order. Vouchers are valid from March 8, 2021 to September 8, 2021, or until program funds are depleted (whichever comes first).
Not an SCP customer?
Program Disclosure as of 3/11/21: Program active through 9/8/2021 or earlier if program funding is depleted. Limit of one purchase per household. Incentives subject to the availability of retailer inventory. By redeeming the program voucher, the purchaser (applicant) acknowledges and agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions of Sonoma Clean Power’s Bike Electric Incentive Program. Participants in the program will receive a 1099 for the tax year 2021 for the value of the incentive (For example, the 1099 will show income of $1,000 for incentives of $1,000). Program terms and conditions may change at any time at SCP’s sole discretion.
To help you ride your new eBike safely, SCP offers two additional benefits. First, any customer who qualifies for Bike Electric is eligible to receive a free helmet. Second, we are partnering with the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition to provide free in-person training on eBike safety and best practices.
This 60-minute webinar will cover what an electric bike (eBike) is, what types of models are available, the difference in speed compared to a regular bike, and the distance that eBikes can travel. Additionally, safety considerations and local laws will be discussed. You will also learn about the upcoming SCP eBike rebate program that will be available soon.
Electric bikes are a great way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With SCP’s Bike Electric program, we hope more people have the opportunity to discover their benefits.
