Sonoma Clean Power Promotes Benefits of Induction Cooking

Energy Efficiency, Speed & Safety Cited Among Top Advantages

(Santa Rosa, CA) Sonoma Clean Power, the public electricity provider for Sonoma and Mendocino counties, is promoting the benefits of induction cooking, as part of the agency’s commitment to energy efficiency, and greenhouse gas reductions.

Just four years after launching service, SCP has saved customers $78 million and cut greenhouse gas emissions from power plants in half. Through their innovative Drive EverGreen program, SCP has helped customers save over $10 million on clean, electric vehicles and given away over 1,500 free home chargers.

Up next…the benefits of induction cooking! Short for “electromagnetic induction”, this technology uses a changing electromagnetic field to heat the metal of the pan and provides fantastic control over cooking. Unlike gas and electric cooktops, induction directly heat pots and pans, rather than heating indirectly, using a burner or heating element to heat the cookware from underneath.

The direct heating of induction stovetops means that food cooks faster and the cooking surface remains cool to the touch.  This prevents burns and makes spilled food easy to wipe up.  Additionally, induction cooking is safer because it doesn’t produce carbon monoxide or other byproducts of gas combustion.

Induction cooktops have become increasingly affordable in the past couple of years. Combined with the speed, energy efficiency, safety, and easy clean-up, induction cooking is quickly becoming the wave of the future.

Those interested in experiencing carbon-free cooking are invited to contact SCP to borrow an induction cooktop:  visit sonomacleanpower.org/inductioncooking or e-mail programs@sonomacleanpower.org.
