Powering Local Small Businesses

Later this year, a new small business resource center called Business One Stop Shop (B-OSS) will open in downtown Santa Rosa. The goal? Make it easier for local entrepreneurs and small business owners to access the support they need to start and grow their businesses.

B-OSS brings together resources like permitting guidance, business support services, and connections to local programs in one place. Services will initially be offered in English and Spanish with plans to expand access to additional communities over time.

Sonoma Clean Power (SCP) partnered on the project because small businesses are a vital part of the local economy and a key group we aim to reach through our energy-saving programs and outreach efforts.

Over the years, SCP has seen many business owners who don’t have the time or resources to reduce their energy costs, whether that means finding the right rate plan, upgrading equipment, or taking advantage of rebates. Supporting B-OSS creates another way to connect local businesses with these tools from the very beginning of their business journey.

While SCP is not involved in managing or operating B-OSS, we will work together to connect business owners directly with programs, incentives, and tools that can help lower their electricity bills. Plus, it's helpful that our Customer Center is right across the street!

To help launch the project, SCP provided a startup grant of up to $500,000 tied to specific project milestones, along with a $4 million loan to help purchase and renovate the building at 350 E Street.

The loan earns 5% interest for SCP — a higher return than traditional bank deposits or treasuries — with interest revenue helping support SCP’s long-term efforts to keep rates competitive for customers. The loan was funded through SCP’s Local Project Investment Fund, while the grant came from interest income earned on SCP reserves, rather than active customer bill payments.

B-OSS is expected to open later this year following renovations to the building.
