About Sonoma Clean Power

SCP is the local, community-owned electricity provider for Sonoma and Mendocino counties, sourcing 90 percent of our energy from clean, zero emission sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal. We serve more than half a million people and invest in our communities through partnerships targeting climate solutions, education, and the fundamental needs of residents.

Stemming from California’s energy crisis in the early 2000s, the legislature encouraged local governments to take over generating electricity for residents and businesses, while leaving PG&E and the other big utilities in charge of the poles and wires. By 2014, SCP was serving customers.

A Decade of Electric Results

In 2024, SCP celebrated 10 years of delivering cleaner, more affordable, and locally sourced energy to our communities. Here are a few of our proud accomplishments:

  • Constructed 195 megawatts (MW) of new renewable power and passed more than $100 million in direct savings to customers. All without relying on taxes.
  • Debuted California’s first – and still only – 100 percent locally generated energy option that is available 24 hours per day, seven days per week. EverGreen supplies local solar and geothermal power to more than 4,000 businesses and residents, and most of Sonoma and Mendocino counties’ municipal buildings.
  • Pioneered dozens of incentives, free classes and online resources to help customers cut their energy bills, lease or buy an electric car, install new efficient electric appliances, and rebuild after the area’s devastating 2017 wildfires.
  • Advocated on behalf of all Sonoma and Mendocino county residents in the California state legislature - and various regulatory agencies - successfully reducing customers’ bills by tens of millions of dollars.
As we head into our next decade, our focus remains clear: to make the transition to cleaner energy not just a concept, but an affordable and reliable reality. We are listening to the concerns of our customers and community and clearly fighting for lower California energy costs is the priority, along with advocating for better power reliability.
