SCP is a local organization fighting for lower electric rates and more renewable energy.
We are not a solar company. Instead, we negotiate good prices on a mix of power from sources like wind, geothermal, hydropower and solar. We replaced PG&E’s power sources with our own for customers across Sonoma and Mendocino Counties.
That means you already get our power.
You get your electric bill from PG&E, but it has two parts. PG&E charges you for ‘distribution’ – the poles and wires. SCP charges you for ‘generation’ -- the power plants. We partner with PG&E to put both charges on the same bill.
Since 2014, SCP has trimmed over $100 million off local power bills and successfully pushed back on millions more in PG&E rate increases. We know power bills are still too high, which is why we are still fighting for you.
Our work is finding ways to cut energy costs while building renewable energy and adapting to a different climate. There are three main ways we do this:
SCP replaced PG&E’s power sources for electric customers in Sonoma and Mendocino County. By negotiating favorable prices on behalf of the homes and businesses across two counties, we’re able to trim your PG&E bill most of the time.
SCP pushes back on PG&E’s rate increases, and once in a while we win. Even small wins can add up to millions of dollars, so we spend a lot of time on this work.
SCP works to change California’s laws in ways that lower energy costs and protect you from a hotter climate.
SCP produces power as a ‘Community Choice Aggregation’ or CCA, negotiating favorable prices on behalf of nearly all customers.
We are governed by elected officials from the Counties of Mendocino and Sonoma, and the Cities of Cotati, Cloverdale, Fort Bragg, Petaluma, Point Arena, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Sonoma, Willits and Windsor.
Our meetings are held in downtown Santa Rosa and broadcast for remote viewers.
