Partnerships are essential to the work we do. They enable us to better understand our customers' needs, connect with our community, and address issues within our service territory.
While Sonoma Clean Power can't tackle every problem in Sonoma and Mendocino counties alone, we can play a crucial role by supporting the incredible efforts and services already being provided by local organizations, agencies, and community groups.
Sonoma Clean Power is thrilled to support the NextGen Trades Academy, a local organization dedicated to empowering the next generation of workers with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the workforce and contribute to a greener future. The academy focuses on equipping young adults with practical skills in various trades, including construction, roofing, plumbing, and electrical work.
NextGen Trades Academy was created in 2017 as a program under the LIME Foundation by Founder and Executive Letitia Hanke. Through the partnership with SCP, NextGen Trades Academy is educating at-risk and underserved youth about careers in sustainability, electrification, and climate-smart building to benefit future generations
The academy holds eight classes a year with 15 to 18 graduates in each class. To date, the program has seen 247 graduates, with more students to complete the academy with a graduation ceremony at the end of July. One way SCP is able to support the academy has been to sponsor tool boxes, which are given to the graduates at the conclusion of the academy.
Beyond its support and services for youth, the academy also hosts contractor forums at SCP’s Customer Center, fostering discussions about the current state of the trade industry. These forums offer local contractors the opportunity to tour the Center and learn about electrification products.
As a vital community resource, NextGen Trades Academy is making a tangible impact on the future workforce and the environment. We are proud to support this initiative, which not only provides practical skills and career opportunities to young adults but also supports the broader goal of building a sustainable and climate-smart community.
