The month of May was a very special celebration for Sonoma Clean Power. On May 1st, SCP celebrated our 4-year anniversary! Over the years, we have helped save customers over $79 million in on-bill savings, and with the help of customers like you, we have pioneered greenhouse gas reductions for our community.
As we move into year five, we are also moving our quarterly letter for EverGreen customers into our newly revived e-newsletter, the Clean Power Quarterly, in order to help reduce our carbon footprint. As part of our first Clean Power Quarterly issue, we wanted to update you on two exciting projects that were only possible because of the support of customers like you!
SCP recently partnered with the Sonoma and Mendocino Land Trusts to plant trees and native shrubs on properties throughout Sonoma and Mendocino counties. In honor of our EverGreen customers, SCP donated over $15,000 in an effort to fight climate change and work toward a clean and healthy environment. In addition to improving habitat and water quality, planting trees helps remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
Also, in case you missed it, your EverGreen service now includes 50% local solar from our two new local solar projects located in Petaluma! Sonoma Clean Power is dedicated to investing in our communities through creating local jobs and local renewable electricity, and we’re happy to share with you that we are checking both boxes with the addition of our newest sources, which officially started operating in April.
We’ve partnered with Coldwell Solar to install 2 megawatts of solar power which will provide electricity for approximately 600 homes annually. The Lavio project was the first to break ground under our feed-in tariff program, ProFIT, which promotes the development of new, local wholesale renewable energy facilities, followed shortly by the Stage Gulch project in rural eastern Petaluma.
Bea Charles owns the Lavio property with her mother, Josephine Lavio, and is continuing with the project for her father, who passed away in 2016. “I feel the solar field is a win-win situation for all involved. Not only does it help Sonoma Clean Power meet their goals of purchasing locally-produced clean power, but it also helps us to afford staying on the family farm,” she said.
Between purchasing 50% local geothermal energy and 50% local solar, EverGreen customers have helped SCP pave the path toward a cleaner tomorrow by building new renewables in our backyard. Thank you for your continued EverGreen support and your commitment to a local, clean energy future!
