Expanding Smart Energy Access - Starting with… | Sonoma Clean Power

Introducing the SCP Home Thermostat Upgrade

Published on 01/08/2026

Eligible customers can receive a new smart thermostat with expert installation, training, and technical support, valued at over $200. Once installed, customers are automatically enrolled in GridSavvy Rewards, earning $5 per month ($60 per year) in bill credits.

Smart thermostats make it easy to manage home comfort from anywhere. During hot summer days, the thermostat may make small, temporary temperature adjustments to reduce electricity us when demand is highest. These adjustments are typically 2-4 degrees, last about two hours, and can be overridden at any time.

You’re always in control. Participation is voluntary.

Powered By New State Funding

The smart thermostat program is part of a broader energy initiative made possible by a grant awarded to SCP by the California Energy Commission through its Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) program. This EPIC grant will support the expansion of SCP’s GridSavvy Rewards program through 2029.

Through this funding, SCP will deliver meaningful energy-saving solutions to residents and businesses across the community, including:

  • 1,000 free smart thermostats installed in income-qualified homes with automatic GridSavvy Rewards enrollment
  • Incentives for 7,500 new devices, including EV chargers, battery storage systems, heat pump water heaters, and smart electrical panels
  • Deployment of 40 smart panels and battery systems to provide advanced technology and backup power to multifamily renters
  • Enrollment of up to 500 small businesses in GridSavvy Rewards to help manage energy costs
  • $250,000 invested in community partnerships to support outreach and enrollment in multiple languages and communities that face barriers to participation in clean energy programs

Together, these efforts will help customers save energy and money while supporting a more flexible and reliable energy system – without sacrificing comfort or control.

More details will be shared this spring as the program launches. Be on the lookout for upcoming announcements and enrollment information.
