SCP's Nonprofit EV Incentives

Published on 07/05/2024

Sonoma Clean Power's nonprofit electric vehicle (EV) incentive is a forward-thinking initiative that addresses the dual goals of environmental sustainability and community support.

SCP offers a reimbursement of up to $22,500 to nonprofits in Sonoma and Mendocino counties that purchase or lease an EV or a plug-in hybrid with a battery range of at least 25 miles (up to $15,000 for a passenger vehicle, and up to $22,500 for a vehicle with a payload over 1,500 pounds).

The incentive aims to empower local organizations in their mission to serve the community while also contributing to a cleaner environment. It creates an opportunity for nonprofits to operate more efficiently and sets a powerful example of how clean energy solutions can drive positive change.

Since launching the program in 2018, 19 local nonprofits have obtained an electric vehicle with the help of SCP’s nonprofit EV incentives. This incentive not only benefits the environment but also offers numerous advantages to the organizations, including cost savings on fuel and maintenance, reliable and efficient transportation, and a demonstrated commitment to environmental stewardship.

The proof is in the plug.

As a recipient of the nonprofit EV incentive, Pacific Environmental Education Center (PEEC) has experienced significant benefits from the program. The organization provides local students with hands-on learning opportunities in natural environments.

With the EV incentive, PEEC replaced a 23-year-old Chevy truck with a new Ford F-150 Lightning. Their new electric truck is used to transport both staff and supplies to several study sites, embodying the sustainable practices they teach.

Without the contribution from Sonoma Clean Power PEEC would not have been able to raise the funds needed for the purchase of the truck. Because we are an environmental education camp, having an electric vehicle fits in with our goals. We are able to ‘walk the talk.'
