Across Sonoma and Mendocino counties, workplaces are embracing a new way to move - and it's electric. Sonoma Clean Power's E-Bike Commuter Grant Program is helping organizations make e-biking a practical, enjoyable, and sustainable part of daily work life.
By offering grants to local employers, SCP is supporting the purchase of shared or staff-use e-bikes that replace short car trips, reduce emissions, and make commuting a healthier experience. From office commutes to field work and service calls, these electric bikes are proving that sustainability and convenience can go hand in hand.
E-bikes made it possible to ride farther, faster, and with less effort, even on hills. For commuters, that means showing up to work energized, not exhausted. For businesses, it means a more connected, active workforce that's helping cut traffic and greenhouse has emissions.
And the benefits don't stop at work. E-bikes encourage exercise, improve mental well-being, and save money on gas and vehicle maintenance. In many cases, they even replace a second car.
At Brooktrails Township Community Services District, employees now ride e-bikes for both commuting and service calls. Routine tasks like reading water meters or responding to maintenance requests no longer require a truck, saving fuel while keeping staff active and engaged. "The health benefits are the greatest part of the e-bike experience," shared one staff member. "I feel healthier, stronger, and have more stamina. It was everything I hoped for."
At Greenacre Homes and School, e-bikes are empowering students as well as staff. Residents are using them to travel between campuses, learning navigation and bike maintenance skills while building independence and confidence. What began as a transportation solution has become a tool for personal growth and community building.
At Open Door Insurance, employees describe their e-bike commute as "a private window of time" that clears the mind and relieves stress. One team member even reported that the simple act of biking to work improved flexibility, reduced back pain, and boosted their focus throughout the day.
Through SCP's E-Bike Commuter Grant Program, local employers are reimagining what it means to commute. Each organization that participated contributes to a cleaner environment, stronger workplace culture, and healthier community.
The results are clear: e-bikes don't just change how we get to work, they change how we feel when we get there.
