SCP Completes First Solar Project in Mendocino County

Published on 01/09/2020

SCP’s first solar project in Mendocino County is officially generating clean energy for customers!

The facility, located in unincorporated Willits, is the fourth local solar project to be built through our feed-in tariff program, ProFIT.

The nearly 1 MW solar system, which began operating in November 2019, produces 2,696,000 kWh per year, enough electricity to power 260 homes. Another great highlight of the project is that 78% of the work was contracted to the local workforce, making it a win for the environment and the local economy.

The ProFIT program promotes the development of new small-scale renewable energy facilities in SCP’s service territory and was designed to support our optional 100% locally generated and renewable EverGreen service.

For an additional cost of $0.025 per kWh, SCP customers can choose to upgrade to EverGreen and dramatically reduce their carbon footprint with no extra lifestyle changes required.

Believe it or not, SCP is the only energy provider in California to offer an option that is entirely renewable and local, that runs 24/7.

By utilizing solar power generated by our ProFIT projects when the sun is out, and geothermal power from The Geyers when the sun is down, EverGreen nearly eliminates the greenhouse gas emissions associated with your household’s or business’ electricity use.

Thanks to our EverGreen customers, we have two more ProFIT projects in the queue, both located in Petaluma.
