SCP is hosting an exhibit of 34 works by 5 local artists at our all-electric, “grid optimal” headquarters. The exhibit will remain on display through a closing reception on Saturday, October 25th.
“We are delighted to present this wonderful locally created art to our friends and neighbors,” said Geof Syphers, Sonoma Clean Power CEO. “And, we take special pride in presenting it at our headquarters in the world’s first GridOptimal® building.”
GHOSTS OF ELECTRICITY:
A collaboration of ethereal images of electrical transmission lines and the poetry they inspired
Photographer Peter Spencer, a former energy analyst for the California Public Utilities Commission, found unexpected poetry in the electric transmission network during his daily commute. His images, often snapped through a bus window during fog-filled sunrises or sunsets, transform steel and wire into dreamlike silhouettes.
Viola Weinberg-Sacramento's first Poet Laureate and a beloved storyteller-responded to these photographs with her signature poetic voice. Each piece pairs Spencer's start, ethereal imagery with Weinberg's short poems (known as ekphrastic poetry), inviting viewers to slow down and feel the quiet hum of infrastructure we too often ignore.
Ghosts of Electricity consists of 31 18"x24" prints with photos by Peter and poetry by Viola. Seven more prints of varying size are also included, with one offering an opportunity for visitors to craft their poems.
YOUNG ARTISTS
Three young artists are featured in this show: Celia Cervantes and Sydney Chapin have oil on canvas paintings, and Kate Jernigan is showing a video.
