Steps for Professional Installation

Contractor Projects

Step 1: Choose a contractor to work with.

We recommend contacting multiple contractors and getting a few bids on your project to compare pricing, compatibility, and timelines.

Switch is On is great a tool for finding contractors who are eligible for additional state and regional rebates and can pass along those rebates to you.

If you plan to utilize rebates other than SCPs, please be aware there may be additional eligibility requirements. For example, statewide TECH rebates require projects to be completed by a contractor in their network to receive their rebate.

Step 2: Confirm the selected appliance meets SCP’s performance requirements.

Please make sure to verify with SCP that the brand and model of the appliance your contractor plans to install in your home meets SCP’s performance requirements. Your contractor may be able to assist you with confirming the technical requirements.

Step 3: Install the equipment.

Before installation, a permit from your city or county department must be initiated. Typically, a licensed contractor will manage this process on your behalf. Your project needs to be formally permitted to receive a rebate from SCP*.

Once the project is complete, you’ll have 90 days to submit your rebate application.

*Induction cooktops are an exception to this rule and do not require a permit to install.

Step 4: Complete a final inspection for your permit.

This may or may not be facilitated by your contractor. Make sure to schedule a final inspection with your city or county permitting department. This usually entails an onsite visit from one of their inspectors.

If the project passes their inspection, they will provide a signed (“final”) permit or follow up with a link to your completed permit, which you can download or print from their website.

Step 5: Apply for an SCP rebate with all the necessary documentation.

To initiate a rebate request, complete our “Claim Rebate” form and attach all the necessary documents.

Please note that incomplete applications will be denied. However, you may reapply when you have all the necessary documentation.

Documents to submit*:

  • Invoice for the contractor’s services.

  • Completed permit from your city or county**.

  • Photo proof of installation.

  • Detailed receipts for any project-related costs (especially if you are a CARE/FERA customer, as you may qualify for a higher incentive to cover more of your project costs).

*Heat pump heating and cooling systems require an AHRI Certificate to be submitted. A licensed contractor will provide this for a project.

**Induction cooktops do not require a permit, only an invoice and photo proof of installation.

Step 6: Receive a check for the rebate amount.

You will receive an email notifying you that the rebate application has been approved and is being processed for payment.

A rebate check will be sent to you in the mail within 6-8 weeks of a complete submission.
